Bookworm...

I love to read. I especially like reading on the train and in my lunch breaks - it takes me away from reality a bit. I prefer fiction for that very reason.

As I've mentioned, I'm the proud owner of an Amazon Kindle.

My case arrived in the mail a little over a week ago also - I'm very pleased with it.

I adore my Kindle. The battery lasts forever, and I can read it for hours on end and the technology used means that it doesn't hurt my eyes. So many people are going to be ditching theirs for the new Apple iPad, however I will not be one of those people. Firstly, the iPad won't have e-ink, so my eyes will hurt as they do when I stare at the computer screen for too long. Secondly, the iPad is much larger than my Kindle. I purchased it because it is light, slim and fits very easily into my handbag, even in its case. Buying an iPad would defeat the purpose of trying to downsize the contents of my handbag.

Since getting the Kindle I have read a great deal. However one book in particular I just cannot rave enough about.

Katniss is a 16-year-old girl living with her mother and younger sister in the poorest district of Panem, the remains of what used be the United States. Long ago the districts waged war on the Capitol and were defeated. As part of the surrender terms, each district agreed to send one boy and one girl to appear in an annual televised event called, "The Hunger Games." The terrain, rules, and level of audience participation may change but one thing is constant: kill or be killed. When her sister is chosen by lottery, Katniss steps up to go in her place.

This book was absolutely amazing. It was so confronting at times that I would be sobbing while I read. I have just found out that it is meant for young adults. I can't believe this - I found it disturbing and I'm 26 years old! The story was so fast-paced and the plot just sucked me right in. I was reading until all hours wondering what would happen next.

I finished the book at 1am about a week ago. The story moves straight into the sequel, Catching Fire, and I just had to have it right then and there, so sat up for another hour figuring out how to convert files to Kindle format. Turns out it's super simple and very clever. I've since finished the sequel and absolutely cannot wait for the final instalment to be released later this year.

I aim to write a post soon with my favourite books and authors, along with a list of the books that I would like to read this year. In the meantime, please comment with any recommendations that you might have.

This looks interesting...what is e-ink?

The ipad looks pretty good...but it looks really bulky...not too good for lugging it around to read.

Do you download books for the Kindle? Where do you do that? Is it expensive - the downloads?

I love reading as well; that's why I am asking so many questions. Haha!

e-ink is the technology that they use whereby the screen looks like paper. It's not backlit and doesn't hurt your eyes like an LCD screen.

Yes - I download the books from the Amazon website or any other e-book website. If you buy the books from Amazon then it's delivered wirelessly to your Kindle automatically.

If you go to the Kindle store on Amazon you can find out more information, but the books range from being free to about $12 I think.

I'm quite attracted by the Kindle and now the iPad for the colour.

That case is quite divine.

Hi Tara - the Kindle is an Amazon product, so you can only purchase it from the Amazon website.
